Barnabear
This program offers a fun and developmentally-appropriate
introduction to the St. Barnabas Day School environment led by teacher Mary Feeney. The children enjoy circle time, free play with age appropriate toys
and games and interaction with children of the same age. Mary, an experienced
preschool teacher, will be teaching the Barnabear class, focusing on learning
self-care, social and emotional learning, as well as early math (sorting,
counting, and building, etc.) and reading (beginning to recognize letters).
This program is a terrific way to get ready for preschool. Parents take turns
joining us, once a session each.
To enroll, children must be 2 ½ before entering the program. Barnabear runs for an hour and a half once or twice a week.
Preschool
Our Preschool program offers a play-based curriculum
to children who are 3 or 4 years old by August 31. Teachers Kristi Barr and
Millie Loughnane lead the children through an organized and fun-filled two
hours of circle time, free play, art and outdoor playtime. Children learn how
to participate in group activities, initiate their own play, make friends and
engage in learning in the best way possible – through play. Preschool
concepts such as colors, shapes, seasons, calendar terms and holidays are
integrated into the materials and activities offered to the children.
Additionally, once a month, the children attend a non-denominational Children’s
Chapel held by Rev. Tierney, where they are introduced to basic concepts of spirituality
and are given the opportunity to ask questions about the “big things” in life.
Preschool runs for two hours three days a week. The maximum
class size is 12.
Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K)
Our Pre-K program offers a play-based curriculum to
children who are 4 or 5 years old by August 31. Teachers Kristi Barr and Millie
Loughnane lead the children through an organized and fun-filled two and a half
hours of circle time, kindergarten-readiness activities, free play, art and
outdoor playtime. While the program is still primarily play-based, children are
introduced to the letters of the alphabet, writing their own names and counting
in a multi-disciplinary, fun and pressure-free fashion throughout the year.
This helps build confidence, and along with the social skills that are
developed during each session, contributes to SBDS’s excellent reputation for
sending well-prepared students on to kindergarten. Additionally, once a month,
the children attend a non-denominational Children’s Chapel held by Rev.
Tierney, where they are introduced to basic concepts of spirituality and are
given the opportunity to ask questions about the “big things” in life.
Pre-K runs for two and a half hours four days a
week. The maximum class size is 14.
Pre-K Enrichment
Pre-K Enrichment is an extended day learning program for our enrolled pre-kindergarten students. It gives the children extended classroom time for participating in additional learning centers, cooperative learning and play and is taught by our SBDS Pre-K teachers. Pre-kindergarten students may enroll anytime during the school year as space is available. Classes will be held every Monday & Friday from 11:30 to 12:15.
