Advent Film Nights at St. Barnabas

Nov. 30, Dec. 7 & 14 at 7 p.m.

On the first 3 Wednesday evenings of Advent, we will watch and discuss films which explore the comings and goings of God amid the contingencies of our finite human world. Cinema helps us see in new and different ways, opening up the depths hidden within the ordinary. In the Advent season, when we watch and wait for the light to shine in the darkness, films are a marvelous lens for sharpening our attention. Click here to learn more.

Solemn High Mass for Thomas Merton

Join us on Saturday, December 10th at 7 p.m. to commemorate Thomas Merton.

On Saturday evening, December 10 at 7 p.m., St. Barnabas will celebrate a Solemn High Mass in commemoration of Thomas Merton (1915-1968), one of the most inspiring and influential Christians of the 20th century. His conversion, monastic vocation, social witness and distinctive voice left an indelible mark on the world. His writings continue to speak, nourishing successive generations of contemplatives, activists and seekers. Many of Merton’s eloquent words will be woven into a contemplative liturgy with chant and incense. The Prayers of the People will use the ancient Advent texts of the O Antiphons. All are welcome.

A Quiet Christmas Holy Eucharist

Tuesday, December 21st at 7pm

Sometimes the holiday season is not “the most wonderful time of the year,” and for those of us experiencing loss or grief, Christmas can be an especially difficult time. The death of a beloved friend or family member, a divorce or job loss, an illness, a frightening diagnosis, a seemingly endless pandemic or myriad other personal struggles can make this time of year particularly tender.

At St. Barnabas, we offer a special worship service – A Quiet Christmas Holy Eucharist.  This is a service for any who find themselves sad, grieving, in need of any sort of healing, or simply desiring a quiet way and tender way to celebrate this most holy time. The service is open to everyone and is especially meaningful for those who are experiencing loss.
