Family Ministries
“I love the involvement and excitement for youth ministries. There is less guilt and shame and a lot of joy here.
Faith formation by laity who have been empowered is important to holding me here. All can lead and it’s important
that voices are heard.”
At St. Barnabas, we seek to foster the growth and development of the inherent spirituality found in all of God’s children, no matter their age. We provide a safe space for all age groups to explore and come to know God through play, prayer, and being in community with one another. From creating Advent wreaths, to pancake races on Shrove Tuesday, to visiting Pentecost prayer stations exploring how we experience the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we learn and grow together through intentional intergenerational ministry.
Children’s Ministry | Pre K–4 through Grade 5
September 14—June 14: Through Godly Play, we aim not only to be a resource to the youngest Christians among us, but to learn alongside them as we explore together the mystery of God’s presence in our lives. Together through Godly Play, we nurture participants to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play. Participants are nurtured to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play led with the help of volunteers from the parish. Older youth are always welcome to join us as helpers for the younger children!
Children can join us in the Youth Room at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings for Godly Play while parents attend the 10:30 a.m. worship service (mid-September—Pentecost Sunday). Children rejoin their family after the Sharing of the Peace to celebrate Holy Communion with the church community.

Youth Ministry | Grades 6 through 12
Youth Ministry at St. Barnabas provides a safe space for adolescents to explore their relationship with God, with their faith, and with each other. We believe that God loves you just as you are, and we do, too. We have questions that we have been afraid to ask, that we fear might be unanswerable. If you have questions and fears, you’ll be in good company.
Youth meet in the Youth Room on Sunday mornings after 10:30 a.m. service (September 14–June 14). Grab a quick snack at Coffee Hour to bring to the Youth Room, hang out, build some friendships, and maybe learn something along the way. The Youth Room is open until 2 p.m. and kids can stay as long or short a time as they like.
The St. Barnabas Youth Group also hosts monthly movie nights on the second Saturday of each month.* We have pizza and sweet treats while we hang out and watch a movie together in the St. Barnabas Parish Hall. There’s always some foosball thrown in there, too! Friends are welcome! A monthly Youth Crafternoon brings together kids from various island youth groups for a hangout session at local coffee or craft shops.
