Worship Commission

“Come, let us bow down,
and bend the knee,
and kneel before

the LORD our Maker.”
Psalm 95:6

These ministries of the church are for individuals who wish to take a more active role in Sunday worship, serving either with clergy or behind the scenes to make worship meaningful for all in attendance. If liturgy and worship, sharing communion, reading the Word of God, making music, or working behind the scenes to make worship happen is something that you wish to get more involved in, check out our many opportunities below!

Acolytes are children, youth, and adults who assist at the altar and in liturgical processions.

Altar Guild members are responsible for set-up of all weekly services, as well as any baptisms, weddings, funerals or other special services during the year.  They provide care for candles, silver, linens, flowers, seasonal decorations, and vestments.

Members of this ministry bake the altar bread for use at Sunday services. The bread baking schedule is put out twice a year and there are currently six dedicated bakers who have been making bread for all our communion services for many years. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please reach out to Laurie Fergusson. The communion bread recipe was developed by Bruce Hedderly–Smith about thirty years ago and can be found here.

Greeters welcome everyone arriving for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. Greeters will answer questions and try to ensure that visitors are invited to the coffee hour following the service, to meet parishioners, and learn something about St. Barnabas.

The music ministry, through the work of volunteer and professional musicians, is continually working to enable, lead, and inspire the people of God in praise and thanksgiving. Do you sing or play an instrument? There are musical opportunities awaiting you here at St. Barnabas!
