From Steve Schmitz and Sue Thompkins
Folks,
It has been a while since you have received an update regarding Chaplains on the Harbor (COH) and the Grass Roots Farm which is affiliated with Chaplains on the Harbor. The COH shelter in Westport continues to shelter, feed, and clothe 30-40 homeless people. The shelter provides hot showers, clean clothes, beds and good nutritional food. Local residents in Westport volunteer to run the Shelter and the Rev. Sarah Monroe holds weekly church services there.
Chaplains on the Harbor also runs Harbor Roots Farm, a 23-acre farm close to Montesano. All of the farm hands are former homeless/incarcerated folks who are now earning a living wage. About 10 individuals work the farm with one designated as the farm manager. The crops grown on the farm during the spring and summer are sold to local families and used in a weekly feeding program in Aberdeen.
One of the goals of COH is to purchase a food truck (like the ones you see by the Casino across the bridge) to increase the range of service they provide in Grays Harbor County. If you would like to donate to that cause, you can mail your check to:
