Our interactive curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child, providing a wide range of opportunities for emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and spiritual growth. The program incorporates music, creative and dramatic plays, language and literature, art, cooking, math, science and outdoor play. Our goal is to give every child multiple ways to learn and frequent opportunities to build on his or her natural strengths. Several special events such as Trunk–or–Treat, the Christmas pageant, and Shrove Tuesday are prime occasions for participation by day school families. It is such a joy to see these little ones in their costumes as they dive into the fun of the event!
At St. Barnabas Day School we use the WaKIDS GOLD Learning Objectives to guide our curriculum and teaching practices. Each child’s individual milestones are documented in a personal portfolio that follows them through their entire time with us. We host twice–yearly goal–setting conferences with parents of Preschool and Pre–K students, to connect about goals and successes along the way, making sure we are meeting the needs of each individual child.

In 1969, St. Barnabas Day School opened provide a preschool enrichment program to fill an island need, and for fifty-seven years, we have provided a nurturing preschool environment to our island community.
Our school began as an outreach ministry of the church and continues to be financially supported by the church. Our director manages the school’s budget and part–time staff. Income from student tuition as well as from the annual wreath and garland sale, helps offset some of the costs of the school, making it one of the most affordable preschool options in the area, and the school is open to identifying opportunities to deepen the connection to the wider St. Barnabas community.
We draw students from the larger community, and provide pre–Kindergarten enrichment, preparing children for success in Kindergarten and beyond. Both the preschool and pre–K students attend monthly chapel sessions with our clergy.
Today, St. Barnabas Day School welcomes children ages 2-½ to 6 to experience engaging play–based learning in a supportive community environment that seeks to lay a rich foundation for your child’s next steps in their educational journey. Our three St. Barnabas Day School programs are designed to encourage the creation and development of life–long learners by providing an environment that enables each child to maximize their unique abilities. Our approach is imbued with values of caring, compassion, generosity, and gratitude. Through play in the classroom and on the playground, the program supports a child’s development of:
